Harlow Chorus was founded in 1975 by Michael Kibblewhite who directed it for the first 20 years. Sarah Tenant-Flowers, now the choir's President, took over as Musical Director in 1996 and enhanced the choir's reputation as one of the foremost choirs in the eastern region, stepping down in 2007.

After a highly successful two seasons with Daniel Hyde, the Chorus welcomed its current Musical Director, Alexander Chaplin, appointed in 2009. Alex has continued the excellent work of his predecessors, creating wonderful music for the enjoyment of singers and audiences alike. He is currently also Musical Director of East London Chorus and Wokingham Choral Society and is in much demand as a pianist and organist both at home and abroad.

Susan Graham Smith, our accompanist, is a full-time professional musician whose skills as a pianist and deputy rehearsal conductor contribute much to the overall performance of the choir.
